Cromwell’s Staff Wellbeing

We have a great passion for our team here at Cromwell, and always strive to create a working environment that is positive and enhances employee satisfaction. As such, we have taken a much broader focus on our staff’s wellbeing and health to not only ensure our team is fully supported and feels valued but help to improve job satisfaction and overall workplace morale. We want our team to feel happy, safe and appreciated at work and have put measures in place to help achieve this.

Mental Health First Aiders

In late 2024, we introduced our first team of Mental Health First Aiders. Members of our team underwent training to allow them to lend a listening ear or offer support to their fellow team members. Cromwell’s mental health first aiders can listen and point you in the right direction to get you the support you need—be it a counsellor, financial support, or anything to help you with your health and well-being.

The team includes 12 Cromwell team members, including senior leadership team members, alongside staff from all departments.

Awareness focuses: 

Each month, we will focus on a wellbeing or health-based topic to help raise awareness and provide advice and support for anyone who is suffering or knows someone who is. This can range from such issues as money worries, anxiety, depression, addiction, and much more. While providing information about the support available, we also help tackle the issues with associated events, which can help ease the conditions.

For example, in January, we focused on the issue of Alcohol Addiction, which aligned nicely with ‘Dry January’. During this month, information on alcohol awareness, support, and advice was readily available, as was a ‘Mocktail Making Class’ organised by HR – a great way for our team to taste their favourite tipples but in an alcohol-free way. All staff were invited to come along and try a mocktail, which not only reiterated the message of safe drinking but also brought the team together.

Our business has several different departments across our Head Office, and it can sometimes be a tricky task to get staff together – especially during our busy working hours. So, as a result, we host a number of events in which all staff can partake and join in. Whether this is a lunchtime quiz or an out-of-hours sporting match, we have organised several activities for our team. Over the past 12 months, we have held several end-of-the-month get-togethers; in Summer we had our inter-departmental football matches with players and spectators from across the board, and as Winter arrived, we took the challenge inside for our darts knockout – again seeing members from every department joining the fun!

Summer & Christmas Parties 

Like many businesses, one of the key times to get together, celebrate successes and appreciate the hard work of our team is at Christmas, with an end-of-year festive party. Of course, Cromwell is no stranger to a Christmas get-together and celebration of the year for our wonderful team, who helped to make it a success, it is always a fantastic event enjoyed by all – so why stop there? In 2024, we decided to have a mid-year celebration in the form of our Summer Party. The aim was simple: get staff together and celebrate the amazing success we have already achieved in the last 6 months. With stone-baked pizzas, an ice cream van, games, competitions and co-departmental mingling, it was the perfect opportunity to bring all sides of the business together whilst the sun shone down.

Suggestion Boxes

Another way we help to achieve staff satisfaction and well-being is through the means of our suggestion boxes. We encourage all our staff to have a say in ways we can improve the working environment here at Cromwell, and as such, have anonymous suggestion boxes in each canteen for staff to share their thoughts and recommendations. Staff recommendations are essential to us, we value the opinions of our staff, and want them to feel that way – and if we can improve the workplace in anyway to the benefit of staff, we will do this to the best of our ability. Allowing it to be anonymous encourages suggestions and helps us identify any issues quicker.

Continual Training 

We offer all of our employees continual training opportunities, whether this is specific on-the-job training like fork-lift training or opportunities to enhance your skillset, like first aid training or fire warden. Alongside this, we host regular training sessions on a wide variety of topics, whether it is training on computer systems, advice on how to use software or where to find information or even just advice on best practices. We also encourage our staff to suggest any training that they believe they would benefit from, or would like to be put through.

Other Wellbeing Benefits

Finally, we offer many other benefits, including health care benefits, stress and mental health guidance. We have a number of resources readily available for all staff to take advantage of, including helpful videos, apps, links and contact information to help with many different issues, whether it is mental health, Physical fitness or home life. We offer gym discounts and host fitness competitions, too – alongside offering funding towards healthcare treatments such as dental and optician appointments. We are 100% committed to the health and well-being of our staff, and we put a number of measures and benefits in place to support this. We not only want to make Cromwell a great place to work, but ensure our staff feel happy, appreciated and supported here.
