Recycle Week Returns

Next week, Recycle Now’s flagship annual event – Recycle Week returns for 2022. The event which has run for almost 2 decades is the annual celebration of recycling across the nation. The week aims to bring together every industry from retailers, brands, waste management companies, governments, and trade associations, to help promote the importance of good recycling and the positive impact it has on our planet.

Cromwell is always a proud supporter of Recycle Week because making the planet cleaner, greener and more resourceful is at the heart of what we do, and recycling is an important driver towards this vision. The products we supply help to capture and contain recyclable items, helping to make the process of recycling far easier for the end-user. For us, Recycle Week is the perfect platform to reiterate the message of correct and well-managed recycling.

‘Let’s Get Real’, This Recycle Week

The theme for 2022 is ‘Let’s Get Real’ – highlighting the real issues with recycling and helping people to find real and manageable solutions and to help improve their recycling. This issue mainly features around the topic of segregation and contamination in waste recycling. Whether this is an item placed in the wrong bin or some food that has not been sufficiently removed before being placed in the bin. These are ‘real’ issues that can have detrimental impacts on the success rate of recycling. Recycle Now stated in their campaign: ‘The reality is that wrong items can spoil the bunch, and make whole lorry loads un-recyclable. We’ve come a long way, but there’s still room to grow.’

This is why they have chosen to highlight the issue of cross-contamination for 2022 – a big hurdle to jump, but when it is done, correctly, it will dramatically boost recycling rates.

Large brands such as Mcdonald’s, Coca-Cola, Danone, Innocent Smoothies, and many more have joined us and thousands of other companies and local authorities in support of Recycle Week.

If you would like more information on the importance of segregation, find it here.
