How Cromwell helps tackle litter

According to a study by litter experts Keep Britain Tidy, more than 2 million pieces of litter are dropped here in the UK every day. As we walk along our streets, beaches, and countrysides it is hard to ignore the litter scattered across these areas, nearly all of which will have been purposefully dropped, left to sit in our environment.

There are many problems with littering, one of which being the impact it has on human behaviour. Research shows litter contributes to further crime and people feel less safe in areas that are littered with waste. Litter can also harm wildlife and the surrounding environment, damaging our precious eco systems.

We are continually encouraging people to improve and control their waste management, this includes encouraging anti-littering. But what is Cromwell doing to tackle litter?

Refuse Sacks & Litter Picking Bags

Cromwell has been supplying products for the capture and containment of waste and recyclables since 1983. These products include refuse sacks, bin liners, compactor sacks, compostable liners, and much more. When used correctly, these products can help contain the waste and prevent it from becoming litter. Our extensive range includes different-sized bags, with varying capabilities, made from recycled and compostable materials which will help to securely capture waste within any bin or receptacle.

But of course, good waste management is the choice of the individual, and sadly despite the existence of many bins, litter still lingers. Our litter picking bags have increased in popularity over the past few years, with more and more of us taking part in litter picking activities. Many local authorities, charities, and organisations now stock litter picking bags to provide residents and volunteers when carrying out a clean-up. These litter-picking bags can be printed to the customers’ bespoke specifications and colour sacks are also a preferred choice, due to their vibrancy and ability to stand out against black refuse sacks.

Litter-picks

We use these bags during our own litter picks, which we carry out several times a year. Whilst also taking great responsibility for our waste, and encouraging others to do the same. Our litter picking activities began many years ago, when we took part in the GB Spring Clean, organised by Keep Britain Tidy, after noticing the litter in our area was quite prominent, we decided to carry out a litter pick each quarter. We also carried out a local litter pick with our sponsored junior football team and take part in the annual GB Beach Clean each September.

As well as undertaking our own litter picks both local and along the British coastlines, we also support others who do the same by donating litter picking bags to local community groups. If we cannot take part ourselves, we are happy to donate supplies to others who are taking the time to do a waste clean-up.

Antilitter Pack

In the Summer of 2022, we developed our anti-litter pack, which we offered free of charge to anyone who wished to use it. This pack was designed to encourage better waste management and try to help deter litterers across the UK. Posters and social media content was created to raise awareness of anti-littering, designed in 4 different styles, to help tackle wrongfully discarded waste in our countrysides, streets, beaches and a focus on dog waste. Alongside this, we created a universal leaflet, which shares shocking statistics about litter, as well as helpful tips to reduce it. Our passion for good waste management and desire to cut down on waste crimes, allowed us to offer this material completely free of charge to people. This material can be downloaded from our website.

Conclusion

We believe that if everyone is a little more conscious of their waste, littering would be dramatically reduced. This would result in safer, cleaner and greener environments for us all to enjoy. Talk to us today to discuss your waste management needs.
