Adam’s Spartathlon Journey

Cromwell is always keen to take on new challenges, and this passion seems to be embedded within our employees as well, with our Account Manager Adam, who recently took on his own incredible feat and tackled the Spartathlon Challenge in Greece, on September 30th 2022.

The Spartathlon Ultra-race is more than just a historic foot-race, it is known to be one of the most difficult and satisfying ultra-distance races that anyone can participate in. Described as the world’s most grueling race, the Spartathlon runs over many different terrains including rough tracks, muddy paths, and a 1,200-meter ascent and descent of Mount Parthenio in the dead of night. This 152-mile race is certainly an epic challenge.

A keen race and sporting fanatic, Adam has taken on many running challenges in the past, including the Race to the Castle 2021 – in which he won the 1st place title, but Adam has stated this will be his most challenging feat to date.

Throughout the work day, we followed Adam’s journey in the offices – screening his tracking and even managing to keep track of his incredible progress. We did take a short break during lunch to carry out our very own racing games in honour of Adam, as our team challenged each other in the far less grueling, egg and spoon race, sack race, and bean bag race. Adam gave it his all, and after hours of running in the blazing heat, he sadly was caught by the ‘death bus’ and timed out just before the 50-mile mark, this is almost the equivalent of running 2 full marathons. Even though Adam was disappointed he didn’t manage to complete the race, he has vowed to ‘be back’ and take on the challenge once again!

All the team at Cromwell were blown away by Adam’s progress and are very proud of this incredible achievement. As he takes a short, well-deserved break to recover, we are honoured to have been a part of his journey. A huge well done to Adam, and the other Spartathlon racers! One to tick off the bucket list!
