We certainly like to start our weeks on a high here at Cromwell, and recently that has been a sugar high! On Monday, 6th October, our team came together during lunch for Macmillan Coffee Morning, a national event with a simple mission: to raise funds to support people living with cancer. It’s Britain’s most delicious fundraiser, and this year the team went above and beyond with their offerings (and donations).
Goods & Games
Staff brought in a wide range of delicious delicacies, from some sweet treats and old school favourites to scrumptious savoury bites. There was something for all staff to enjoy. Whilst many of the team were putting on their chef’s hats and bringing in home-baked goods, we were also spoilt for choice with tasty shop-bought goods, turning the reception room into a cake factory! Alongside the banquet of treats, we also had a few games to help raise further funds for the charity. With a fun quiz for the team to challenge themselves at, and a guessing game full of sweets, which were up for grabs for one lucky winner, it brought a bit of extra spice (or should we say sugar) to proceedings.
It wouldn’t be a Cromwell Macmillan Coffee Morning without a bit of healthy competition too, Great British Bake Off style! With so many homemade bakes to choose from, we thought that, in addition to tasting them, we could also rank them. Everyone chose their favourite, but this proved to be a very tough decision. The leaderboard was changing throughout the day, with the top spot being constantly altered by different bakes, but after all the votes were counted and verified, it was our Account Manager, Edward Dry and his Banana Bread that took home the gold, and the ‘Star Baker’ title and bespoke apron!

More than just cakes
But amid the fun, there was purpose: to raise money for Macmillan. Unlike some bake sales, we didn’t itemise our cakes; instead, we left the donation to the team’s discretion, which resulted in some incredibly generous donations. With the cause being one that has affected almost all of our team in some way, whether it is personally or through friends and family, the donations given were a testament to how important and amazing the charity and the work it does are.
After a day of calorie-filled fun, staff dug deep and ate plenty, helping raise donations for Macmillan Cancer Support, which is helping people through one of the toughest battles life can throw at them.
We’re proud to support a cause that touches so many lives, and we’re even prouder of the Cromwell team for showing up, baking big, and giving generously.
Until next time, Macmillan – we’ll keep the kettle on.
