If you wandered past the Cromwell Polythene stand at the LARAC Conference 2025, you’ll have noticed more than just our wide range of recycling and food waste liners; you’d have spotted three friendly faces: Tom, Russell, Alex, Darren and Edward, ready to talk rubbish. Quite literally. The team from Cromwell, headed to the industry leading show ready to meet and greet new and old friends within the local authority and waste sector.
Show Success!
The event was a roaring success (as ever), and not just because of the footfall, but because of the genuine, forward-thinking conversations we had with local authorities, both familiar and fresh. It was brilliant to see so many people so passionate about waste management and upping their recycling game, and we were in the middle of the action ready to give our advice and showcase our bag solutions.
Our stand became the unofficial hub for navigating the stormy seas of Simpler Recycling reforms. Councils came armed with questions, and we were all too happy to provide answers.
Simpler Recycling made even Simpler!
The clock is ticking for the next stage of DEFRA’s Simpler Recycling Reforms, which will now affect households. As of March 31st 2026, which is less than 5 months away, all local authorities must offer separate food waste collections to their residents. This is likely to be a brand-new form of waste collection that is being introduced. So, where to begin and what do Councils need to do, in order to make it work, and work well? This was the big topic at our stand at LARAC!
From the introduction of food waste collections to how best to implement them, we tackled it all. After discussing the requirements with the local authority and their methods of disposal, we were able to advise on the best bags for their residents’ food waste. Not only giving them our professional, expert opinions, but also a free sample. Compostable liners? Tick. Polythene caddy liners? Absolutely.

Standard Recycling
We also explored practical strategies for improving waste segregation, focusing on the smart use of coloured and printed sacks. Whether it’s using bold colours to visually guide householders or printing clear instructions directly onto the liners, these solutions are helping local authorities make recycling rules easier to follow and harder to ignore. Think of them as traffic lights for your litter, simple, visual cues that steer residents towards the right bin and significantly reduce contamination.
To help illustrate these options, we showcased bespoke printed sacks at the event. The response was strong, many councils were particularly drawn to the idea of visual instructions integrated into liners, especially in preparation for forthcoming waste legislation.
With mandatory food waste collections now introduced, and mandatory flexible film collections set to follow by 2027, many local authorities are already preparing. That’s why we had samples of our flexible film collection bags on hand, designed to support early planning and smooth rollouts ahead of the deadlines.
That’s a Wrap
