As the season change and we delve into the spring, there is one clean-up campaign that draws our attention year after year, this is the GB Spring Clean. The campaign is described as the Nation’s largest litter pick, run by environmental charity, Keep Britain Tidy. This annual clean-up is now in its 8th consecutive year and growing annually.
Our annual Litter Pick

Since its launch in 2015, thousands have taken part in the fortnight-long clean-up, including Cromwell, who has been joining the cause for several years. Each year, a team of litter pickers head out to collect discarded waste littered around our local areas – as the company has grown, so have our litter picking efforts. Like in many years previous, we organised a 2023 team of litter pickers.
Cromwell’s GB Spring Clean kicked of with the team at Sherburn in Elmet, continuing their GB Spring Clean efforts on Friday 24th March, with 2 teams equipped with litter pickers and our very own litter picking sacks, ready to clean up the local industrial estate. The morning team headed to a busy location on the estate which had a number of businesses and a local café, this resulted in a range of littered food packaging, sauce sachets, and coffee cups, alongside other items like beer cans, vape pens and redundant packaging. After another hour of litter picking, 6 bags of waste were filled, with various items – including a high-visibility coat!

As the day went on, it was the turn of Sherburn’s afternoon team, who returned to the Sherburn in Elmet Industrial Estate. As the morning team wrapped up their clean-up, it was evident there was an area that was in much need of litter-picking attention – as such this was the spot the afternoon team tackled. The area itself is one we have cleaned in the past, and it seems the litter bugs have returned, leaving many bottles, cans, food packaging, cigarettes and more. Next to a busy distribution site, the area sees HGV drivers come and go throughout the day, and many stop in this zone for rest-bite, this may be resulting in large amounts of litter being discarded along the roads, paths and hedgerows. After another hour of litter picking, the team could leave the area clean and waste-free, collecting another 5 compactor sacks, filled with rubbish.
Litter off the streets!
Over the course of the week, 18 volunteers from Cromwell were able to clean up 3 different areas collecting a total of 16 bags of litter, which are now removed from our streets. We thoroughly enjoy taking part in the GB Spring Clean, and always emphasise the importance of good waste management and anti-littering, to help ensure a cleaner, greener more resourceful planet. Good luck to all other litter pickers – if you need any bags to assist with your clean-ups, talk to our team today.
