Litter Picking Wrapped Up

At Cromwell, we don’t just ‘talk rubbish’, we also get out and collect it too, with our regular litter picks. Throughout the year our team takes the time to step away from desks and warehouses, and grabs a litter picker and bin liner, hitting the streets, parks, and green spaces for a good old-fashioned litter pick.

The GB Spring Clean

Our annual litter-picking efforts kicked off in March with the Great British Spring Clean. We joined forces with 24 volunteers from local businesses, including XPO, Sainsbury’s, and Humdinger, tackling our neighbouring industrial estate, one of the North’s busiest. In just one hour, we filled 36 bags of waste. That’s a serious transformation and a clear message: a litter-free space is everyone’s responsibility.

Supporting Councils with Cleanups

Beyond Yorkshire, we teamed up with Manchester City Council and Keep Manchester Tidy. We tackled Heaton Park post-Oasis gig (no Wonderwall of waste left behind), followed by a big clean of Clayton Park for Love Parks Week, where the council and a team from Keep Britain Tidy joined us. Across two sessions, we gathered 29 bags of waste, which helps in ensuring green spaces remain safe for both people and wildlife.

Pitching in with Sponsored Teams

We don’t just sponsor local sports teams, we support them on the ground too. The Sherburn White Rose footballers, Sherburn Bears rugby squad, and Monk Fryston FC all joined us to clean up their training pitches and community parks. It was a brilliant way to show support, encourage young players to care for their spaces, and remove bags of waste in the process.

Beautified beaches!

Even Scarborough’s shores weren’t safe from our litter pickers. During the GB Beach Clean, our team swept through sand and seaweed to remove stray socks, chip forks, and, even, despite the rise in Vapes (and their attributing litter), a pile of cigarette butts. By the end, the only thing we left behind were footprints and sandcastles – leaving no harm to the public, seabirds or ocean.

Why Litter Picking?

That’s our litter picks done and dusted for 2025. But here’s the thing: we’re not doing this for the photo op. We’re doing it because it matters!

Waste doesn’t just disappear when it leaves your hand. Every crisp packet flung out of a car window, every plastic bottle dumped in a hedge, adds up to a colossal environmental headache. It pollutes waterways, endangers wildlife, and makes our communities look neglected.

As a company deeply embedded in the waste management and resource efficiency sector, we feel a responsibility to walk our talk. Our litter picks are a boots-on-the-ground demonstration of our brand promise – to be cleaner, greener, and more resourceful.
