Cromwell’s Summer Celebrations

After weeks of rain and gloomy weather, the sun was shining down on us for our first-ever Summer staff get together, where our team came together for an evening of celebration and bonding.

Celebrating together

We are incredibly proud of our team here at Cromwell. Just seven months into the year, their hard work and productivity have given us plenty to celebrate. To show our appreciation, we hosted a Summer Party, a perfect way to bring everyone together outside of work and toast (with ice cream) to this year’s achievements.

The evening was filled with fun, starting with delicious stone-baked pizzas from the local pizza van, Deano’s Pizzas. In true summer fashion, we also enjoyed refreshing ice cream from another local gem, Franco’s and Son, as the sun beamed down. The food was a hit, but it was just the beginning as staff enjoyed games like giant Jenga and oversized Connect 4, and for those who preferred a different challenge, we had playing cards to spark some friendly competition.

Annual Sports Day

The games on offer during the event ignited a competitive spirit within our team, so what better way to channel this energy than by hosting our annual sports day? Our sports day is always a massive hit with the staff, who thrive on a bit of healthy competition, as seen in our monthly football matches. Now in its third year, the event was bigger and better than ever! With six thrilling races to compete in, it was fantastic to see so many of our staff getting involved and giving it their all.

Kicking off with the fan favourite the egg and spoon race – after a nail-bitingly close end, V A R was needed at the finish line to double check the winner, who in the end it was Josh Hopps who took home the gold! Our audience were kept thoroughly entertained during all the races, in particular the 3-legged and wheelbarrow which saw a few tumbles and wobbly knees – luckily no wounds were inflicted… maybe just hurt pride. The 5 winners, Josh Hopps, Kyle Dutson, Adam Marchant, Edward Dry and Carl Handley then had one last race to win, the CHAMPIONS race! With onlookers watching eagerly, pizza in hand, the five racers took their positions at the starting line, ready for the countdown. After a 3, 2, 1—they were off! A 100-metre dash and back again to complete, and after a fiercely competitive battle, it was Edward who crossed the finish line first, earning the title of Sports Day Champion 2024!

Testing of the Brain!

As one contest finished, another began – this time not as physically challenging, but rather mentally, as we hosted our ‘Summer Quiz’. Another monthly favourite from staff is our quiz, and of course a Cromwell party wouldn’t be the same without one. Marketing Coordinator, Rosie (stage name Clever Cloggs Crossley), was the host for the ‘Summer’ themed 20 question quiz, where it certainly tested the knowledge of staff, in teams, pairs and even solo quizzers. With a variety of topics covered including, music, food, film and geography there was something for everyone in Crossley’s quiz but after a close finish, it was Henry Lee’s team who were crowned summer quiz champions.

The fun had to end sometime!

The fun continued all afternoon and into the evening, with chat, games, competitions and laughter – the only thing missing was a campfire to accompany our hay bale seating. As the sun began to set, the event begun to wrap up, with some staff still playing Jenga until the bitter end, and more pizza for their supper, it was clear by the smiling faces that it was a knock-out event, enjoyed by all who attended. With high demand from the team for another get-together, it looks like our Summer event is likely to be an annual one.
