Hope is on the horizon this year with vaccines being rolled out, but we must not become complacent. The recent surge in COVID-19 cases has left hospitals in crisis and led to Lockdown3.
Strict hygiene and infection control procedures remain central to the line of defence. Here at Cromwell, we have a range of protective products to help prevent the spread of the virus. Our clinical waste sacks are UN accredited and ideal for the collection, transport, and disposal of hazardous wastes such as COVID-19 test kits and PPE.
Our Wave® range of PPE includes disposable gloves suitable for healthcare, cleaning, and waste management tasks. They are food safe, which means they are highly effective for sanitising requirements within food contact areas. The gloves are both latex free and powder free, helping to minimise the occurrence of skin irritation.
We are delighted that this range has been short-listed in the Tomorrow’s Care Awards 2021. The winner is voted for by readers of the magazine, so please cast your vote for us before 15 March – all done with one easy click.
The range also includes water-soluble strip laundry bags for the safe containment of soiled linen. We also supply other forms of PPE such as disposable aprons and protective plastic sheeting for work areas.
Capture waste safely
For those who have tested positive for COVID-19 and are self-isolating, it is important to double bag waste and leave it for 72 hours (three days) before placing it into the general waste. Our compactor sacks and wheeled bin liners for local authority, commercial, and industrial use are approved by the Cleaning and Hygiene Suppliers Association (CHSA) accreditation scheme. This ensures they are fit for purpose and that the dimensions and count of products are as indicated on the label i.e. ‘what’s on the box is what’s in the box’.
Staying at home during lockdown can also lead to increased levels of food waste, and an increasing number of local authorities are providing services to help reduce this. Compostable bags play a key role in the effectiveness of collection of these materials and we also provide councils and waste management companies with liners suitable for anaerobic digestion plants. Our bags can be conveniently removed with debagging equipment at the front end of AD plants.
The liners enable hygienic storage, whilst keeping odours to a minimum. They help keep the process of emptying caddies or bins as straightforward as possible, without the need to wash the food caddy or wheeled bin.
As we have highlighted in a previous blog, unfortunately, demand for protective essential items during this pandemic has led to some companies making unsubstantiated claims about product performance.
Businesses should ensure they are purchasing products, which meet European Standards (EN), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and carry CE markings where appropriate.
We regularly highlight the resource-efficiency and protective qualities of responsibly produced plastic packaging. We offer a comprehensive range of products that prompt responsible waste disposable and recycling behaviour, whilst helping to keep people and minimise infection risk.
