Helping to secure a sustainable future on our streets and in our seas

For over a decade we have attended and exhibited at the industry leading RWM exhibition, and, as regular readers of our blog will know, this year is no different.

Taking place from 11-12 September at the NEC, Birmingham, RWM is the biggest platform for world changing innovations that are shaping the future of sustainability. We’ll be showcasing sustainable ways to collect separate materials for recycling at our ‘street scene’ themed stand O14.

On the stand’s kerbside, we’ll be revealing exclusive new additions to our extensive range of products for the capture and containment of resources for recycling. Our solutions ensure the right product is available, in the right place, for the right recycling application. Our friendly team hope to see you there!

Straight after RWM, we’re off to the beach! Not in the hope of catching some autumn sunshine, but to take part in the Marine Conservation Society’s annual Great British Beach Clean. This is the third consecutive year that we are taking part in the campaign to keep the shores of Great Britain clean and free from litter and waste.

Great British Beach CleanOur team will be taking to the sands of Primrose Valley near Filey in Yorkshire on 14th September to clean up the shores of this part of the East coast. Results from our beach cleaning and litter surveying 2018 programme indicated that levels of seaside rubbish had decreased in comparison to the previous year. We are hoping that there will be limited amounts of litter again this year, as people are becoming more aware of the impact of materials polluting our oceans.

We’re also supporting and helping to fund Keep Scotland Beautiful’s #UpstreamBattle ‘Week of action’, taking place from 14-20 September. Litter dropped on land is washed into gutters, blown into streams and makes its way via our rivers into the ocean. Focused on the River Clyde and its tributaries, Upstream Battle is an ambitious campaign to stop litter on land reaching the sea.

In our June blog post, we shared news of our voluntary support for Keep Scotland Beautiful’s #Source2Sea Week where clean-up activities took place to prevent marine pollution. During the week, we joined a team of volunteers aboard environmental charity, Hubbub’s ‘Plastic Fishing’ vessel. This 12-seater boat is the world’s first punt made from recycled plastic and helps educate people about the importance of cleaning up around our waterways.

This month also marks Zero Waste Week and Recycle Week, both with the emphasis on using resources more efficiently. Sustainability is firmly on the national agenda and people are showing increasing concern for the environment and the impacts that our actions have. This means there is a growing demand for responsible products, which not only meet our waste and recycling challenges, but also help to combat climate change. It’s vital that we work together to find achievable solutions to protect our environment and act on climate change. Let’s all join that journey!
